Q. I intend to use the skates outdoor and have sometimes gone over 30 miles in one trip. At this point, I am not intending to use the skates competitively. I have purchased K2 and Roller Blade Skates (approximately $299) in the past. Are there more advanced, higher comfort skates available? For recreational/fitness skating, K2 and Rollerblade are still the top companies. They make skates anywhere from $100-$400. When you go to the higher priced skates in their line, you get better frames and larger wheels, plus boots that are shorter to allow your feet more freedom in your stride. You also get frames that can be adjusted to your needs or replaced with other standard frames. Their top end tend to be the lower end of racing skates. The frames and wheels are similer to their top fitness skates but the boots become very short with much less padding.
